'Music is my life'

Palani Forsythe, Wai‘anae High School

My mother sang us to sleep when we were little kids. She sang local songs and kissed us and turned out the lights and closed the door. She sang “Somewhere over the Rainbow,” that I knew from Brudda Iz. It made me think about my future and what I wanted to do in my life and what it would take to get there. I would lay there staring at the ceiling just thinking about everything, wondering if I’d be just like my parents or someone better.

As I got older I started to sing and write songs. Music became my life. My dad helped me with one of my very first songs teaching me everything I know about music today.

Iz opened my eyes to a a whole new world. I thank my dad and mom and Iz because music is my life.
